About The Curiosity Case

What is The Curiosity Case?

The Curiosity Case creates enjoyable reminiscence experiences for older people, using familiar objects, nostalgic themes, music, stories and images to encourage conversation and shared memories.

Originally developed as a face-to-face service for care homes, the concept has expanded to include TCC TV, our online video subscription service.

TCC TV makes our approach to reminiscence accessible to care homes and families across the UK, allowing older people to enjoy themed content wherever they are.

Who are The Curiosity Case services designed for?

Our services are designed for older people who enjoy revisiting the past, sharing experiences and talking about familiar people, places and events.

TCC TV is available to care homes and private individuals and families supporting older people at home. It can also be recommended by organisations supporting older people, including home-care providers.

Our face-to-face sessions provide a more traditional, interactive reminiscence experience in person.

What are the benefits of reminiscence activities?

Reminiscence provides opportunities for older people to revisit familiar experiences, share personal stories and connect with others.

A familiar song, a photograph, an old advertisement or a discussion about everyday life in the past can prompt memories and lead to enjoyable conversations.

The Curiosity Case uses these familiar themes to encourage participation, social interaction and shared enjoyment. Every person’s experience is different, and our aim is to create a relaxed, welcoming environment in which people can participate in their own way.

Is The Curiosity Case suitable for people living with dementia?

Our reminiscence activities are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for older people, including those living with dementia or experiencing memory loss.

Familiar subjects, nostalgic images, music and sensory experiences can provide useful starting points for interaction and conversation.

Everyone is different, so we encourage care staff and family members to choose appropriate themes, allow plenty of time and adapt the experience to the individual’s needs and preferences.

Our services are activity resources intended to encourage engagement and enjoyment, rather than medical treatments.

Face-to-Face Reminiscence Sessions

How does a face-to-face session work?

During a face-to-face session, Clare presents a collection of nostalgic objects and curios based around a particular theme.

Through stories, anecdotes, music and familiar items, she encourages participants to share their memories and experiences. Objects can be handled, where appropriate, and the session provides opportunities for conversation, laughter and interaction.

Each session is designed to be engaging and relaxed, allowing participants to join in at their own pace.

Are face-to-face sessions suitable for groups and individuals?

Face-to-face reminiscence can be enjoyed in a group setting, where participants share memories and experiences together.

The format can also provide opportunities for more individual interaction, depending on the setting and arrangements for the session.

The approach is flexible, with the emphasis on participation, conversation and enjoyment.

Where are face-to-face sessions available?

The Curiosity Case’s face-to-face service is based in East Dorset.

Availability depends on location and scheduling. Please note that our face-to-face sessions are currently fully booked through the end of 2027.

For those looking for reminiscence activities in the meantime, TCC TV offers an online alternative for care homes and families at home.
